ADMISSION TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The Centre for Global Academics (CGA) coordinates and manages all matters related to the admission of foreign students under University of Kerala. Internationalisation has become a key component of the changing landscape of higher education and this process has been influenced by the globalisation of our economies and societies and the increased importance of knowledge. The oldest University of the state of Kerala and one of the first Universities in India, University of Kerala had modest international linkages until the turn of the last century. However, in the recent past, there has been consistent increase in the number of foreign students registered for various academic programmes, besides sharp increase in exchange programmes and collaborations for research and academic arenas.In 2022-23, about 125 foreign Students from 35 countries with unique cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds, are studying under University of Kerala.This includes students from Afghanistan, Brittain, Benin, Botswana, Bangladesh, Colombia, Chad, Ethiopia, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lesotho, Maldives, Mali, Malawi, Malaysia, Mosambique, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Palestine, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Srilanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, who registered for various academic programmes including graduation, post-graduation, PhD and PDF. Students and faculty from neighboring countries and also USA, UK, Middle-east, Germany, France, Korea, Poland, Italy, Brazil, South Africa etc. have studied/taught at University of Kerala in the recent past.

The foreign students can join for any programme offered by University of Kerala at any point of time from 2 to 12 months prior to the commencement of the programme, through two streams as follows

1.International Students with ICCR Scholarship of Government of India.

International Students desirous of seeking admission under this scholarship programme of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India, shall apply through ICCR A2A portal (https://www.iccr.gov.in/), with various fellowships offered by ICCR. All applications will be accepted online through A2A ICCR scholarship portal only.

2.Self-Financing Students

In this category, students without any external support, seeking admission to any programme shall submit an application in the prescribed form with all necessary supporting documents to the Director, Centre for Global Academics, University of Kerala by email or post.If the applicant is found to satisfy all eligibility criteria an admission offer will be issued to the applicant.

Activities

Semester-in-India Programme (SIP)
Semester -in-India Programme involves American students being admitted to University of Kerala for selected courses for one semester and being issued credit transfer certificates to return to home Universities where the courses completed in University of Kerala will be integrated into their academic records. The University has made Credit Transfer Regulations and Credit and Semester System (CSS) Regulations for the foreign students for the smooth conduct of the programme. So far three batch of 23 students representing have successfully completed the SIP. They represented Universities/Colleges such as St. Mary’s College (Maryland), Grand Valley State University, George Mason University, Green Mountain College (Putney), Cornell University, Plymouth State University, Hendrix College, and Pacific University.



Summer Short-term Programme (SSP)
Under this programme overseas students will be given shot-term (6 weeks) courses and the credits acquired will be transferred to their universities. One student from Berea College, Kentucky, USA has completed the programme under this scheme.
